Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

christian.jpg

We want to give a special shout-out to Christian Grant-Fields who’s on the cast of BET’s new hit-show “Harlem Heights”. We’ve known Christian as a faithful regular at the shop and thought he was only Dime magazine’s marketing assistant & lifestyle editor. No no no people, Christian is an pretty much your jack of all trades when it comes to things. Christian is responsible for bringing in New York Knicks’ own Nate Robinson to the shop to do an exclusive Dime Magazine photo-shoot at the shop a few months back. So again, we would like to congratulate Christian and good luck.

To check out Christian in action, make sure to turn in to BET every Monday night at 10PM ET / 9PM CT.

Obama and Spider-Man appear in comic together

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

WASHINGTON – Spider-Man has a new sidekick: The president-elect.

Barack Obama collected Spider-Man comics as a child, so Marvel Comics wanted to give him a “shout-out back” by featuring him in a bonus story, said Joe Quesada, Marvel’s editor-in-chief.

“How great is that? The commander in chief to be is actually a nerd in chief,” Quesada said. “It was really, really cool to see that we had a geek in the White House. We’re all thrilled with that.”

The comic starts with Spider-Man’s alter-ego Peter Parker taking photographs at the inauguration, before spotting two identical Obamas.

Parker decides “the future president’s gonna need Spider-Man,” and springs into action, using basketball to determine the real Obama and punching out the impostor.

Obama thanks him with a fist-bump.

Marvel comics have featured most presidents, but generally in walk-on roles, Quesada said.

“I think President Nixon might have appeared on the cover, but not in a good way,” he said.

Obama has said that as a child, he collected Spider-Man and Conan the Barbarian comic books. His Senate Web site used to have a photo of him posing in front of a Superman statue.

The Obama story is a bonus in Marvel Comic’s Amazing Spider-Man #583, available in comic book shops nationwide on yesterday Jan. 14 for $3.99 and is  sell out, with half the covers devoted to Obama.

So if you didn’t get it yesterday. *WOOP WOOP*… Check EBAY!

What do you think needs to go?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Goodbye 2008, hello 1999 plus 10! Since the year has gone by and we’re all critics to the public eye, what fashion trend or style deserves to die and go away? You know what I’m taking about, skinny jeans versus baggy pants, hipsters versus the retro kids. What do you think needs to say goodbye in 09?

Comment and let your words be known. And don’t worry, no restrictions applied to your thoughts!
